Cumulative University GPA
Cumulative University GPA = Σ (Semester hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Semester hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • UT Arlington undergraduate grades have no plus/minus: A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1, F 0 grade points per semester hour.
  • The cumulative University GPA covers all work undertaken at UT Arlington for which a letter grade is given (including credit by examination, correspondence and extension), unless a grade has been removed by Grade Forgiveness, Grade Replacement or Grade Exclusion.
  • Courses graded I, P, Q, W or Z do not count as hours undertaken for the GPA and earn no grade points.
  • Pass/fail (Engineering, Liberal Arts, Science and Nursing majors, under each college's rules): an F in a pass/fail course counts in the GPA like any other F, except in developmental courses.
  • An Incomplete is left out of the GPA while it stands; if not removed by the end of the final examination period of the following term (summer excluded), it becomes F.
  • Grades earned at other institutions are not used in the University GPA, and a course repeated elsewhere does not change the UT Arlington GPA.
  • A course may be repeated only if the earlier grade was below C. Unless a policy below applies, every attempt stays in the GPA.
  • Grade Forgiveness (students who first enrolled Fall 2013 or later): for a D or F in a 1000- or 2000-level UT Arlington course, up to two forgiveness opportunities — grade substitution (retake the course at UT Arlington; the first grade is removed from the GPA) or, once, grade omission (when changing to a major that does not require the course). Not for pass/fail, transferred or disciplinary grades; forgiven grades still count for Latin Honors.
  • Grade Exclusion (students who first enrolled Fall 2006 through Summer 2013): a D or F may be removed from the GPA on request, up to three courses (at most one at the 3000/4000 level); not for pass/fail or disciplinary grades; excluded grades still count for Latin Honors.
