How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Semester GPA
Semester GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = sum of grade points ÷ credit hours taken for a grade; no other grades count toward the GPA.
  • EU (enrolled with no record of attendance or participation) is treated as E in the GPA.
  • Repeats: for a course repeated on or after August 1, 2026, the highest grade earned is used in the GPA; for a course repeated before that date, the most recent grade is used. Grades from all attempts stay on the record; credit counts once.
  • If the repeat ends in NC, U, W, AU, I or T, the previous grade keeps counting in the GPA.
  • Two attempts are allowed without approval; a third needs advisor permission and more than three need the dean. Equivalent transfer or test credit counts as one attempt.
  • CR (A through C-) and NC (D+ and below) are not included in the GPA; S and U are not included either.
  • An I not resolved within 90 days after the start of the following term (or an agreed extension) becomes E; an NR not replaced within 45 days becomes E.
  • Accepted transfer work is not included in the cumulative GPA.
