How your result is calculated
- GPA = quality points accumulated at UT Knoxville ÷ hours attempted at UT Knoxville, not including hours with grades of I, N, NC, NR, P, S and W.
- A course may be taken at most three times (W does not count as an attempt) and may not be repeated once a C or better is earned; except under grade replacement, all grades of repeated courses count in the GPA.
- Grade replacement: up to three grades below C in 100–400 level courses (no more than 13 hours in total) can be replaced by repeating the course; the highest grade earned is then used in the cumulative GPA. All grades stay on the academic history.
- Transfer course grades cannot be replaced, and grades from study abroad through other institutions are not calculated in the UT Knoxville GPA.
- S/NC: S is given for C or better and NC for C- or below; neither counts in the GPA.
- An I not removed within one calendar year (or at graduation) becomes F and counts in the GPA.
- In courses graded ABC/N, grades below C are recorded with an N prefix and are not included in the cumulative GPA.
