How your result is calculated
- University GPA = grade points earned at UT San Antonio ÷ for-credit semester credit hours attempted at UT San Antonio. Credits and grades from other institutions, credit by examination and hours graded CR are not included.
- A+ earns the same 4.00 grade points as A.
- GPAs are truncated, not rounded, at the second decimal place (3.816 becomes 3.81) on transcripts generated after February 1, 2000.
- Repeats to improve a grade: only a course graded D+, D, D- or F may be repeated, once per course and for at most four courses. If the repeat earns a higher grade, only the higher grade and its hours count in the GPA; if it earns the same or a lower grade, the repeat grade is not used. All grades stay on the record; a W does not count as an attempt. Applies only to courses completed and repeated at UT San Antonio (policy effective Fall 2009).
- Beyond those limits (a second D+/D/D-/F in the same course, or after four repeated courses) every later grade counts in the GPA.
- Repeating a course already passed with C- or better (or CR) is a duplication: the repeat's grade and hours are not used in the GPA. Courses described as “may be repeated for credit” count every time.
- A higher grade in a repeated course does not change academic standing for the semester of the original grade, and courses cannot be repeated after graduation to raise the GPA.
- Optional credit/no-credit: up to 24 semester credit hours, free electives only. Grades of D- or better are recorded as CR and F as NC; neither affects the GPA.
- An Incomplete (IN) must be completed by the end of the final examination period one year after it was given and before graduation; otherwise it changes automatically to F (or NC).
