How your result is calculated
- GPA = sum of (unit credit points × GPA grade value) ÷ sum of credit points.
- The GPA includes all attempts at units that are awarded a numeric grade; unfinalised results are left out. Each course has its own GPA.
- Withdrawing before the academic penalty date leaves the unit out; withdrawing after it counts as a fail (FN, 0).
- Advanced standing from previous studies at another institution (or from old courses) adds credit points only and its marks are not used; 'duplicate credit' when transferring between new courses is counted.
- GPAs for admission to some postgraduate courses (e.g. Juris Doctor, Doctor of Medicine) and for awards with distinction or scholarships may be calculated differently.
- WAM = sum of (unit credit points × unit mark) ÷ sum of credit points.
- The WAM includes all unit attempts within a course, including failed units; each course has its own WAM.
- Results without a visible mark count as follows: FC (Failed Component) 48; PS (Passed Supplementary) 50; FN (withdrawn after the academic withdrawal date) 0; FS (Failed Supplementary) the original mark.
- Ungraded passes and fails (UP, UF), withdrawals without penalty (WD) or early withdrawals (WP), and zero-credit-point units (NC) are not used; deferred or supplementary exams granted (DE, SG) and results not available (NA) do not affect the WAM until finalised.
- Credit transferred from previous studies is not used; units counted as 'duplicate credit' when transferring between Bachelors courses count in both WAMs.
- For postgraduate awards with distinction, the WAM used may differ from the one displayed; see the course rules in the Handbook.
