How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • VU grades relatively; each grade has an equivalent percentage, and every score from 50% to 84% has its own grade point (50% = 1.00, 61% = 2.00, 71% = 3.00, 80% = 3.66, 84% = 3.93). 85% and above earns 4.00; below 50% is F (0).
  • Within a band the grade point rises in a straight line, so a score between two whole numbers gets a point in between (for example, between 80% and 85%: 3.66 + (score − 80) × 0.34 ÷ 4.99).
  • A course is passed with at least 40% in aggregate and at least 20% in both the final-term exam and the other semester work.
  • An F counts in the GPA and CGPA with its credit hours; a failed course must be repeated.
  • A course graded below B may be repeated to improve it; a repeated course counts once, with the higher grade.
  • A first- or second-semester GPA below 1.9 means probation; a student who does not reach a GPA of 2.00 in the third semester is dropped. The degree requires a CGPA of at least 2.00.
