How your result is calculated
- GPA = grade points earned ÷ credits attempted at WSU; credits attempted for F grades count in the GPA.
- A+ and D- are not used; a plus adds .3 and a minus is .7 (e.g. B+ = 3.3, A- = 3.7). Grades below D are failing.
- P, S, M, H and NH give credit but no grade points, and their credits are not in the GPA; I, W, X and U give no credit or grade points and are disregarded.
- Rounding: the GPA is rounded at the third decimal (2.866 becomes 2.870) and the transcript shows two decimals (2.87); a 5 rounds up.
- Z (stopped attending without withdrawing) appears and functions as an F.
- An Incomplete must be made up by the end of the following year (or a shorter time set by the instructor); otherwise, or if the student repeats the course, the I becomes F (U for S,U courses).
- Pass/fail option: up to 21 credits at WSU; instructors report letter grades and A through D become P. P is not in the GPA; F is.
- Repeats: a course graded C- or below (or W) may be repeated; a course graded C- or below may be repeated once at WSU (more only with the offering unit's permission). Only the last grade counts in the GPA and total credits earned.
- Undergraduates may use four course withdrawals (W); W carries no grade points.
- Grades earned at other institutions (transfer and other nonresident credit) are not computed in the WSU GPA.
- Fresh Start: after at least four years away with a cumulative GPA below 2.0, a returning student's earlier credits and grade points can be excluded; courses graded C or better are later restored as credit only.
