- Grades are relative: they are worked out with the formula in DU's Ordinance IX from the class mean and standard deviation, so there are no fixed mark ranges.
- F (Fail) and Ab (Absent) carry 0 grade points.
- To pass a paper you need at least numerical grade 4.
- The grade certificate shows the SGPA of each semester and the CGPA of each academic year; the final percentage is worked out from the Grand CGPA of all semesters and is not printed on the certificate.
- Grades are relative, set from the class mean (X̄) and standard deviation (σ): O from X̄ + 2.5σ, A+ from X̄ + 2σ, A from X̄ + 1.5σ, B+ from X̄ + σ, B from X̄, C from X̄ − 0.5σ and the pass grade from X̄ − σ; F is below X̄ − σ.
- Each cut-off is capped: it is the formula value or 90% (O), 80% (A+), 70% (A), 60% (B+), 50% (B), 40% (C) or 30% (pass grade), whichever is lower.
- In a course with up to 30 students, grades are based on the actual percentage instead of the formula.
- F means the paper is failed and must be taken again.
- Non-credit courses are marked satisfactory or unsatisfactory and are not counted in the SGPA or CGPA.
