How your result is calculated
VTU 2022 scheme: converting CGPA into percentage of marks for employment or higher studies.
Source: Visvesvaraya Technological University, Visvesvaraya Technological University (Award of Bachelor of Engineering/Technology Degree) Regulations, 2022 (retrieved 2 Oct 2026). Checked against the document on 2 Oct 2026.
- Grades come from the total of CIE and SEE marks expressed as a percentage; if a course has no SEE, CIE marks alone decide the grade.
- A course is passed with grade P (4 points) or better: at least 40% of the total, with at least 35% in the SEE and at least 40% in the CIE.
- SGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits for the semester's courses.
- CGPA = Σ(semester credits × SGPA) ÷ Σ semester credits.
- SGPA and CGPA are rounded off to 2 decimal places.
- DX credits are not included in CGPA.

| Awarded | Percentage | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| First Class with Distinction (FCD) | 70% and above | — |
| First Class (FC) | 60–70% | — |
| Second Class (SC) | 50–60% | — |
| Pass Class (P) | 40–50% | — |
B.E./B.Tech. students admitted from 2022–23. The class is read from the percentage M = CGPA × 10 of the final CGPA. The class is reckoned after the final CGPA is converted to percentage of marks: M = CGPA × 10 (clause 22OB 6.7). As printed: M ≥ 70 FCD; 60 ≤ M < 70 FC; 50 ≤ M < 60 SC; 40 ≤ M ≤ 50 Pass Class (the Pass Class upper bound is printed inclusive, so M = 50 falls in both Second Class and Pass Class as printed). Applies "after successful completion of the Program".
